Seniors and Disabled
Peter Barca is a strong advocate for the rights of
seniors and the disabled. Peter knows that with the rising costs of
health care and prescription drugs many seniors in Kenosha are facing
hardships.
As a legislator, Representative Barca achieved the
following success:
·
He was one of the leaders of Community
Options Program [now called Family Care] to help keep seniors in their
homes improving their dignity and saving taxpayers the cost of nursing
homes.
·
He was one of the leaders on the Spousal
Impoverishment Act to ensure when one spouse is in a nursing home the
other spouse was able to keep key assets and not be reduced to poverty.
·
He was a leader in the nursing home reform
bill to provide enhanced care for senior citizens and the disabled.
·
He led the effort to give seniors a choice
of where to get their prescriptions filled
·
Barca was the foremost leader in the
legislator in fighting for increased funding and the resources for
Special Education.
·
He reached across the aisle to Sen.
Buettner-Roesner (R-Oshkosh) and passed bill to give Sheltered Workshops
such as the Kenosha Achievement Center improved access to state
contracts.
The Barca Agenda is:
·
To lead the effort to gain a federal
waiver to maintain and expand senior care.
·
Provide greater options for affordable
health care for seniors and identifying creative ways to lower
prescription drug costs through the use of the state’s bargaining power.
·
Enhance family care programs that provide
long term care services in their homes to elderly and disabled, thereby
improving the quality of life for seniors and saving taxpayers money
·
Provide greater support to special
education, which will also reduce the burden on property taxpayers
Initiate efforts to have better oversight of assisted living centers. |
